Quick Start Guide
Planting Time:
For Hot Areas (Lahore, Multan, Karachi):
- Plant from February to May
- Place in full sun if planting in February
- Reduce direct sunlight as temperatures rise—avoid harsh afternoon heat (12 PM to 4 PM)
For Cooler/Hilly Areas (Murree, Abbottabad, Gilgit):
- Start in February or March, after the last frost
- Can plant bulbs until August
Watering:
- Water lightly until shoots appear
- Then water only when topsoil feels dry
Pot Size:
- Clay Pots: 10–12 inch wide, with drainage hole
- Plastic Pots: 6–8 inch, depending on bulb size
- Clay pots are better for hot areas, plastic for cold regions
Soil Mixes
For Clay Pots:
- 1 part loam
- 1 part leaf mold or cow manure
- ½ part coarse sand or coco peat
- ½ part cow dung or vermicompost
- Add: 1 tsp bone meal + 1 tsp single super phosphate
For Plastic Pots (Soilless Mix):
- 2 parts coco peat or peat moss
- ½ part pumice stone or perlite
- ½ part leaf mold
- ¼ part cow dung or vermicompost
- Add: 1 tsp bone meal + 1 tsp single super phosphate
How to Plant
- Mix a fungicide (2.5g per liter of water)
- Soak bulb roots and basal plate for 10–15 minutes
- Place bulb with pointed side up
- Cover bottom ⅔ of bulb, leaving top ⅓ exposed
- Fill pot with prepared mix
- Water using the fungicide solution
First Fertilizer:
Use 20-20-20 NPK when growth starts (typically 5–6 weeks after planting)
Light & Temperature
- Morning sunlight is ideal
- Avoid 12 PM to 4 PM heat, especially in Punjab and Sindh
- Ideal temperature: 20–35°C
- Can tolerate up to 45°C if kept under trees or green netting
Post-Bloom Care
- Allow foliage to grow—it helps store energy in the bulb
- Reduce watering in winter to induce dormancy
- In cold areas, stop watering by late autumn
In Very Cold Areas:
- Either leave bulbs in the pot and bring indoors
- Or dig up the bulbs, wash, dip in fungicide, dry thoroughly, and store
Storage Instructions:
- Wash bulbs (optional)
- Dip in fungicide
- Dry thoroughly
- Store in a cool, dry, dark place
- Replant in February

- Spray fungicide monthly (on leaves and soil)
